  • Introduction
By now you probably have herd about MP3 and how it is the latest thing, well this is why I am not going to focus on what they are and where to get them. What this discussion is all about is to simply provide some of the greatest tools to have and how you can get music before it comes out on the market. Here you will also lean how to find that song you always wanted but you don't know the artist or song title.
    Players
The MP3 music player of choice is known as Winamp due to the wide range of themes you can download or create. There are other MP3 players, which you can download with no cost to you.

The music on the other hand can be tricky to find if you are trying to use a corporate search engine. Most of the songs you will find are going to take anywhere from 10 seconds to 10 days to find but with the right tools you can do it even faster. One of my favorite tool to use is Napster which has gotten a lot of attention lately due to bands acting like corporations thinking that we are steeling their hard earned product. In reality most pop, alternative, and rock music's lyrics and beats are contracted from other sources while the product is reproduced by the millions at a cost of pennies to the dollar. Many of the greatest artists today support this MP3 revolution because they have realized its potential. For example, I have bought 6 CD's of groups like Massive Attack, Bjork, ATB, and Moby. If these names don't sound familiar it is because they are a type of music known as underground because they are hard to find on the market and most of the time you have to order them form over seas.

Some of the most popular web sites and servers are listed below with a short description on how to use them.

Scour - This is a web service that is like a search engine but is limited to video, Images, and music. You do need to download a media agent but I recommend downloading scour exchange.

Napster- This is another service that allows you to share and search other peoples directories for music but is limited to only MP3 music files. It is very safe to use and very quick to find any file you are looking for.

MIRC- This is a chat service that allows you to exchange any kind of file you want including zip and full length "new" movies. To get these you will need to have a little experience with DOS because although it is a windows application you navigate through these file servers with commands like " dir, cd.., and get". Don't get me wrong, it is easy to use one you get the hang of it but it in now way resembles a dos environment.
Lets say that you just download the program, the first thing you will do is choose a screen name and connect to the server, this will happen automatically. Now you will click the lightning icon on the top left corner and you will connect to the server. Right now it looks like a regular chat server but it is far from it, click the green circle-like icon on the top left and search for mp3 or warez, mp3 for music and warez for programs, music, movies, and games. It might take a while but you will want to click on a chat room that appears enter it and you are free form there.

A ripper is a program that takes CD tracks and makes them into mp3 tracks so that you can fit as many as 200 high-quality songs on one CD. There is only one problem, your CD player won't understand these tracks and is why the MP3 is mostly confined to the computer and some expensive players. So the best way to go is to buy the music and encode the music off a CD and make it to a mp3 or download them off the Internet. Then get a program called a ripper what will take your favorite songs that you pick and convert them back to CD tracks so that you can play your favorite music in your car or office. This does however require that you have a CDR-ROM drive so that you can put the music on a CD.
